For a game to legally be counted as "gambling" in most jurisdictions, it has to pass a three-part test: a player has to pay money (1) for an outcome that's materially determined by chance (2) in the hopes of receiving something of value (3). While buying a key to a loot box in a Valve game easily passes those first two tests, New York's legal case will likely hinge on whether the random cosmetic items players get from those loot boxes constitute "something of value" for statutory purposes.

The cheapest of the bunch if the Samsung Galaxy S26 base model, which bumps last year's S25 starting price by $100. But lucky for you, if you preorder it at Amazon, you'll not only get a free $100 Amazon gift card to make up for that price hike, but also a free storage upgrade. That means you'll get an unlocked Galaxy S26 with 512GB of storage and a $100 Amazon gift card all for $899.99. The offer ends on March 10, just one day before the official launch date. There is a plan to prevent such a strike—the Space Surveillance Network, a bevy of sensors that the military uses to track space debris. NASA monitors what’s unofficially known as the “pizza box,” a sort of no-fly zone around the ISS. When pieces of debris are predicted to enter the box—if there’s at least a 1 in 100,000 chance of collision—mission controllers order avoidance maneuvers, firing thrusters that move the ISS and dodge the trash. The technique has been used dozens of times since the first ISS module launched in 1998. But the system only tracks about 45,000 larger pieces, and all sensors have noise. Plus, risk thresholds can miss stuff, sometimes badly. In 2025, Chinese astronauts were briefly stranded at their station after debris hit their return vehicle.
